Here’s our guide to work out if your bra is fitting correctly:

There are two parts to a correctly fitting bra, the band size and the cup size

 Band size

The band size is the number part of your bra size, this will be expressed differently depending on where your bra is from.

Most of the support of you bra comes from the band. This should be firm without being too tight.

A new bra should be fastened on the outermost hook and should be firm but have enough room to still be able to slip two fingers under the band i.e approx 4cm of give.

If the bra needs to done up on the smallest fastening the band is too large.

If the bra is doing up on the outermost fastening and is digging uncomfortably into the skin it is too small.

The elastic of your bra bra will soften with wear. You want be able to adjust the closure to maintain a firm fit as you wear it over time.

Cup size

The cup size is the letter part of your bra size i.e. A, B, C, D, E…etc and relates to the volume of your bust.

Unfortunately these are not the same all over the world either.

C C C

E F DDD
F G DDDD

When trying a bra if the cup size is correct your breast should be sitting inside the cup of the bra. The wire should flat against the front of the chest. The sides of your underwires should be sitting behind your breast tissue..

If your wires aren't sitting flat on your chest or your breast is spilling out of the cups your size is too small.

If you find the fabric of the bra at the gap is gaping or puckering and not supporting your breast fully the cup size is too large.

Remember you won't always be the same size across different brands.

We are all come in so many different shapes and sizes not all bra styles will be suitable for all busts. It is worth trying a few different shapes and styles to find the ones that work for you.
